The Japanese girl group Morning Musume. ’17 blasts in at No. 1 on the latest Billboard Japan Hot 100 dated Oct. 2 to 8 with their new single “Jamashinaide Here We Go!”
The song is the 64th single by a “Morning Musume” group and will be the last with member Haruka Kudo, who will be leaving after their December concert at the prestigious Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. It came in at No. 1 for physical sales with 178,024 copies sold, and the points combined from look-ups (No. 7), Twitter mentions (No. 14), and downloads (No. 16) powered the popular vocal and dance group to their first No. 1 on the Japan Hot 100.
The physical single release for this song features three tracks and the Twitter ranking for all three combined is at No. 6, meaning that the release drew a great deal of attention from Morning Musume’s devoted fans.
Sexy Zone’s 14th single “Gyutto” ranked a close second on the Japan Hot 100, selling 115,187 CDs in its first week. It fared well in various metrics of the chart’s measurement - - coming in at No. 2 for physical sales and No. 1 for look-ups and Twitter - - but needed 2,000 more points to secure the top spot.
Kenshi Yonezu has become the powerhouse of this year’s Japan Hot 100, with 6 songs still on the tally including the long-lasting No. 1 hit “Uchiage Hanabi” with DAOKO. His songs tend to collect points through downloads, Twitter, and video views, and the young hitmaker is steadily reaching a wider audience through digital media.
He’s still not done with this year’s releases, and recently dropped a killer collab with Masaki Suda, one of today’s most sought-after Japanese stars. The track, “Haiiro to Ao” (Gray and Blue) will be included in his new album Bootleg that will go on sale Nov. 1, and it looks like he’ll have a few more Japan Hot 100 hits under his belt before the year is through.
