X Japan performed a special two-day concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of their reunion on Tuesday and Wednesday (Apr. 10 and 11), in a relatively intimate-for-them setting at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo.

A total of 5,000 fans flocked to the venue to witness the full recovery of the band’s leader Yoshiki, who had undergone cervical artificial disc replacement surgery last May. The legendary musician had refrained from playing the drums since his surgery, but unleashed his comeback performance in all its flamboyant, head-banging glory to the sheer delight of his loyal fans who had waited patiently for his return.

Guitarists Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit, Richard Fortus from Guns N’ Roses, and Miya from the Japanese visual kei band MUCC joined X Japan as special guests during the concert, and everyone returned to the stage to perform an incredible eight-man rendition of “X” at the end of the commemorative show.

X Japan will be performing at Coachella as headliners at the Mojave Stage on Saturday, Apr. 14 and 21. The band will be incorporating holograms of the late guitarist HIDE and bassist TAIJI to perform as a “seven-member” band at the Coachella shows.
