John Mayer, never one to be coy about his personal life, got especially candid on the latest episode of his Instagram Live talk show Current Mood on Sunday.
Mayer was joined by guest Cazzie David, daughter of Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David, who asked him some invasive questions about his sex life. David jumped right in, asking what is probably one of the most burning questions among Mayer’s fans: Does he play his music during sex?
“No, but a girl has asked me to sing some of my song in probably the run-up to it,” Mayer responded.
However, Mayer did admit that especially in his early 20s, at the height of his “Your Body Is a Wonderland” frenzy, he “did use [his] music to hook up a few times,” but is quick to add: “That doesn’t mean it’s any less from the heart.”
When thinking back to the love song that shot him to stardom, Mayer has some resentment toward “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” After being mocked by drunk men and frenzied fans alike, Mayer says, “I’m still trying to live it down.”
Now at the age of 41, Mayer confesses that getting girls isn’t as easy as it used to be for him, calling himself “PR poison” in reference to his previous bad-boy persona. "I find people not being into me brings a real level of reality into my life,” Mayer revealed. "Not so long ago, I gave a girl my number and she said, ‘I probably won’t use it.’"
It’s no secret that John Mayer’s list of past flames is pretty extensive. The singer has famously dated celebs like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift, to name a few, but revealed to David that he might not be quite the lothario people think he is.
David asked Mayer to blink twice if he’d slept with more than 800 people and Mayer responded by cracking up staring directly at the camera. When David lowered the number to 500 people, Mayer again stared directly at the camera, to which David responded that was “impressive.”
“What does it say about my expectations that if you find out I’ve slept with less than 500 people, it’s kind of impressive?” he joked.
In the spirit of sharing while simultaneously keeping up his intrigue, Mayer did admit that he’s in the “sub-500 gang.”
